#Why Do We Fast?

The discipline of fasting releases the anointing, the favour and the blessing of God in the life of a Christian.

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33

In the beginning of 2019, as a church we dedicated 21 days to pray & fast together. You can fast whenever you'd like, and here's some resources to help you as you seek God.

Fasting is not merely going without food for a period of time. Biblical fasting is refraining from food for a spiritual purpose. It brings us into a deeper, more intimate and more powerful relationship with the Lord. By fasting, your spirit becomes uncluttered by the things of this world and sensitive to the things of God.

In Matthew 6:16-18 Jesus provided the pattern that each us as children of God are to live. It addresses three specific duties of a Christian: giving, praying and fasting. Jesus said, “When you give…” and “When you pray…” and “When you fast...”. He made it clear that fasting, like giving and praying was a normal part of Christian life.

  • We fast to seek God’s face; to know Him more
  • We fast to increase our faith
  • We fast for God to do something in us that He has never done before
  • We fast to break strongholds in our own lives
  • We fast for breakthrough
  • We fast to seek direction from God.

Fasting weakens the flesh and strengthens our spirit. Closeness with God is our goal and fasting is the method.

#What will my Fast look like?

We encourage you to join the YouVersion plan “Less of Me/More of Him”. This is a 21-day bible reading plan, encouraging us to draw closer to God as we fast. A link is available below.

Join a Life Group as we will be praying together and encouraging each other as we fast.

Clear your agenda to make room for God.

The most important part of fasting is to dedicate time to read God’s word and pray. Replace the time you would be preparing food or eating, with prayer and the word.

Listen to Praise & Worship music as much as you can to be in God’s presence. We’ve put together a playlist, available below.

Also, make sure you drink lots of water. Every time you are hungry; drink water and pray.
